I would find it useful to have an email notification option to turn on/off which sends an email with the content of /var/asl/data/updtaes-pending.log when pending-updates are available or the list has changed since more updates where released.

Thats a great idea, it might be something you'll be able to create with the new rule manager as well. We already finished the ability to do per-rule custom notifications on file system changes (Example: userA gets notified when /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/ changes).

Otherwise to capture this one internally the FR is:
1) Capture the updates pending notification in an email
2) List what updates are pending
3) be able to configure who this goes to / otherwise do not notify.
