Hi,
sorry to bother with this, but I think that there are so many files from years ago on the rules download. Is this for a reazon? Could it be arranged in folders by year? or maybe to order from recent to old?

It is a hughe list of rules that I don't know if they are used any more.

Regards,
Sergio

Which files/directories are you referring to?

Hi Mike,
when I enter into http://www.atomicorp.com/channels/rules/subscription/ to download the latest rules, it shows hundred of modsec zip files that are since Apr 07 2008 15:10:39 (my line counter says that there are about 1,500 files including clam, geomap and modsec).

That is what I am referring.

Regards,
Sergio

Thank you, Scott.

But that is not what I mean. What I mean is when you enter into the download area to get the latest rules, there are hundred of files that I assume are not used any more, an example (an exerpt from the listing):

Quote:
modsec-200804071510.tar.gz Apr 07 2008 15:10:39 134kb
modsec-200804090915.tar.gz Apr 09 2008 09:15:36 135kb
modsec-200804101257.tar.gz Apr 10 2008 12:57:28 136kb
modsec-200804101525.tar.gz Apr 10 2008 15:25:24 136kb
modsec-200804141855.tar.gz Apr 14 2008 18:55:49 137kb
modsec-200804150706.tar.gz Apr 15 2008 07:06:16 137kb
modsec-200804151622.tar.gz Apr 15 2008 16:22:56 137kb
modsec-200804161208.tar.gz Apr 16 2008 12:08:43 137kb
modsec-200804161210.tar.gz Apr 16 2008 12:10:54 137kb
modsec-200804161215.tar.gz Apr 16 2008 12:15:56 137kb
modsec-200804161300.tar.gz Apr 16 2008 13:00:26 137kb
modsec-200804181047.tar.gz Apr 18 2008 10:47:21 138kb
modsec-200804241245.tar.gz Apr 24 2008 12:45:15 231kb
and so on.....

Sergio

Ok,
could it be possible to move the older files to a directory called "2008" for instance?

I know, it is not a problem to have to go down to the bottom of the page to get the latest rules but is a time consuming every day to retrieve the latest one, if the listing were ordered from latest to old would be great as well.

I don't want to sound to noisy, but as you have asked "what we can do to improve the rules", I tought it was a nice thing to start with, so the customers like me that have to download the rules everyday could have access to them more easily.

Thanks for your patience with me, lol.

Well thats one way to do it. :P You might want to take a look at this example script, to see how you can use the VERSION file to automate it:

Thank you Scott,
I have seen this auto updater, but my box is Cpanel and there are a lot of things that are related to your ASL modifications that doesn't work for me.

I will try to tweak it a bit for cpanel and see if it could work.

Regards,
Sergio

Please let us know what you had to do to tweak it. We want to make sure we capture everything for cpanel users so we can support all the different cases cpanel users have to live with.

Feature request: Please can we have a "latest" file in the rules repo? So basically you just do an wget [address]/modsec-rules-latest.tar.gz

They do something similar with Asterisk and a few other things I regularly download. It just makes things easier for the end user.

I know this thread is kind of old, but...

Thanks for doing the clean up on the download page, now it is only rules from 2010 and it is faster to open and download the latest rule set.

Best Regards,

Sergio
