Scott,

Now that Plesk 8.1 supports mysql 5.x, can I please request a rpm for upgrading to sql 5.x?

I also am guessing this opens the door for a full upgrade from FC4 to FC5 fedora now? Any chance of an upgrade rpm for that also?

That gives two options for Plesk 8.1 users.

Cheers,

David

There are mysql 5.0 rpms for FC3 and up in the atomic-bleeding channel now.

Scott,

Do you think a new plesk 8.1 channel can be made with SQL 5 in it? Considering the door is open now for a base FC5 or even a FC6 running plesk 8.1?

It seems a new channel is really needed now.

Also I have read how to upgrade FC4 to FC5 by yum. Do you have any pointers or methods you have played with?

Cheers,

David

Im reluctant to put my rpms in the same channel as the sw-soft stuff. Just to maintain the separation, there are folks out there that use my archives that dont run PSA. So its just easier to keep everything in one place. What I'll probably do is merge the PHP 5.1+ and mysql 5 packages down into the [atomic] channel, and make sure they're appropriately marked up to not break PSA versions older than 8.1.

Hi Scott,

Thats a great idea :)

I also checked plesk 8.1 offically supports FC5 (plesk have installers online), so you will need to add a FC5 channel into the plesk archives now specifically for 8.1, I checked there is only up to FC4 for plesk 8 online.

So anyone who runs FC5 needs the atomic FC5 repos?

FedoraCore 5
Autoinstaller build 061201.02 2.3M
Plesk 8.1.0 for Linux/Unix build 81061129.23 release notes 231M
FedoraCore 5 64bit
Autoinstaller build 061201.02 2.2M
Plesk 8.1.0 for Linux/Unix build 81061129.22 release notes 232M

Cheers,
David

Ive got FC5 and FC6 channels now, just not populated with very much yet. Not that this is a major issue with FC5/6 since they both come with php 5.1 and mysql 5 by default.

Scott,

I know there is some way to edit the repo's and get yum to update from FC4 to FC5.

Do you have a recommendation of a proceedure please?

I only ask as I have a goddaddy dedicated server, it only reprovisions with fc4, so there is no way I can do a clean fc5 install.

Sure now plesk 8.1 supports fc5, it may take a LONG time for them to do an update for the base OS.

Cheers,

David

you can either manually edit the $releasever field, or try bumping up the fedora-release rpm. I used to do updates like that alot on my systems, its kind of a 50/50 operation. Either its flawless or it just blows up in a flame of glory. Make good backups!

When it blowed up in a flame of glory, was that because of Plesk? Because I've always upgraded my workstation to new major Fedora versions using yum without problems.

Nah, nothing in plesk last time around. Just a standard FC2 to FC3 update. My beloved winona (the ART whq laptop) goes through a lot of hard drives, and as of this moment Im on my 6th right now, so I've gotten in the habit of putting the OS on one drive and /home on the other. Makes reinstalls pretty painless, and updates unnecessary.
