Hello All,

I recently moved to a new server.
DNS propagation was a bit of a challenge and took longer than expected.

This morning a number of emails were delivered to the new server that can be seen in webmail but are NOT downloaded to the mail client.

When i look in the mail dir i can see that mail today has a 2,S at the end of the file name

1306756863.M964056P23961V0000000000000902I000000000A49E74D.webhost.2large.co.za,S=1076:2,S

If I rename the file and remove the :2,S the email then downloads.

Is there a "simple" way to rename all email in all mail accounts for today? (1039 mailboxes)

Another issue

All mail stored on the server, is been downloaded to users mailboxes.
In some cases the over 500MB of email :)
Is there a way to stop this from happening?

This is a time/date thing, I think. Check the timestamps on the emails? Not a solution, but a possible cause of the problem anyway. Also check that the clock on your server is correct.

Hello Faris,

Totaly lost at the moment with this.
I am wondering if this not also be a permissions issue.
On my old server things are a bit different to the new one ?

Maybe you could confirm the correct ones below?
I ran /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk --with-spam to get the perms below

What I have also found is that if a user connects with IMAP all emails are working correctly.
Many of my clients using a Blackberry recive mail to the phone, but not in outlook?
POP3 mails seems to the problem.

If i connect to my own domain with IMAP - I see all the emails.
POP3 emails do not all come in.

One way to get some of the emails to come in was to change the POP3 address from name based to IP based.

Hi Kram,

Interesting stuff! You got me searching for why email messages have that naming format which took me here : http://qmail-support.blogspot.com/2005/ ... ildir.html

From your first post : Removing the :2,S is telling the system that the message (which was marked as read) is now unread. Its odd that this should be needed to get the mail downloaded, it implies that the POP clients think they have already downloaded the messages.

From your later post : Swapping out the server name for the IP. This would indicate strongly that the mail server DNS isn't updated and is pointing to the old server? Do you use the same server name for POP and IMAP? Are the mail accounts accessible (ie not disabled and not having had their password changed) on the old server?

Paul.

Yeah, if using the IP works and using the domain name doesn't, there's definitely something up with DNS as Paulie says.

The perms look OK to me at first glance.

Hello,

Just a quick update.

@paulie this certainly did seem to be a DNS issue.

After reading your post I forced the old server to use the New servers as DNS.
I then changed the NS records of all the domains to point to the new server.

A day later and everything returned to normal.

Thanks to everybody for your input.
